Renovation

The project entailed the renovation and adaptive re-use of a community hall into a 1200 seat church. Our services included architectural design, liturgical design consultation and liturgical element design. A primary goal was to create a sense of inspiration within the existing mundane hall. Towards this end natural light was brought into the space via a stepped clerestory drum and by pushing back the reredos to provide a vertical band of light at the reservation. The project’s geometries were designed to correspond to the geometries of liturgical elements in order to create a cohesive sense of space, shape and surface within church. A modern acknowledgement of the rich legacy of classical design is evidenced in the interplay of circle and square manifest in plan, section and liturgical elements. The elegant application of natural materials of keystone, marble, stained glass and wood work to soften and enrich the space.
