Saint Mary of Chestochowa Church  |  Middletown, CT

Restoration/Renovation

The reconfiguration of this historic church entailed the reconfiguration of the sanctuary to meet modern liturgical guidelines. The altar was moved forward into greater proximity with the congregants with a new screen reredos behind. The long Gothic nave was thus changed into a Romanesque apse. The new circular reredos highlights the altar and liturgical activities performed at the predella. New shrines and the reservation were created as part of the screen system at the reredos. Side altars were eliminated.

A new altar designed and constructed from old. For sake of continuity as much of furnishings as possible redesigned from old. A baptismal font placed at entrance to nave. The existing oak pews were refinished and rotated slightly to give a sense of intimacy and participation by parishioners. A highly detailed and refurbishment of interior finishes was performed in concert with a new lighting system.
